Lifting up in Prayer

We continue to pray for those who are homebound: Fred Apsey, Pat Bivens & Clara King (Knox County Nursing Home), Ila Clark (Courtyard Estates), and Joyce Beardsley (Woodridge). We pray for healing and comfort for Jim Hutchcroft at Heartland Healthcare. We pray for the brother of Lori Nyi, whose brother is recently diagnosed with another cancer. We pray for all the members of our church family as they minister to family and friends in the community throughout the month.

Home Communion

Rev. Carolyn Weber and Elder Ginny Anderson have reached out on our behalf to some of our members unable to attend regular worship and offered communion on Sundays following our communion during worship. If you, or someone you know, would like to receive home communion, please let us know.

Welcome to the Hansen Family!

The Session is very pleased to have entered into a contract with Matthew Hansen to serve as our part-time pastor. Matthew began his official duties in July and we are beginning to become better acquainted as we explore together what it means for us to be the church in this time and place. Matthew and his wife Sarah have four children: Serena (14), Ashton (12), Eden (10), and Elie (7). They are getting settled into their home in Knoxville, and school began last week for the children. Matthew is working part-time with us while he is completing his divinity studies. Sarah also works as an admission counselor at Knox College. Please take an opportunity to introduce yourself to them and welcome them to our church family.

Family Meeting

We have scheduled our first of two Family Meetings for 2016. Over the next year, we are going to have four Family Meetings (one per-quarter). We will be discussing who we are as the church; why we exist, where we want to go, and what it will take to do that. If you are interested in being part of this conversation, please join us:

Adult Sunday School

This class will resume meeting on Sunday September 4. The first class will be a time of discussion to talk about what topic we would like to focus on during the year and why. This class tends to evoke a lively, questioning, group discussion on a variety of topics that we deal with as we growth together in our faith. New members are always welcome.

Church Budget

The session will soon be entering into preparation for the church budget for 2017. We made a step in faith in our contracting with Matthew Hansen, knowing that our present assets can support this first six month period (through the end of December). However, the financial reality is that we need to generate $750 more each month in receipts to balance the budget beyond that time. We feel that this is a challenge that our congregation can meet and we are making this appeal to you for your support. Please be in prayer about your giving to the church.
Contact any member of the session if you have questions or concerns about the budget. Barb Ball is our church treasurer and can answer specific questions in greater detail.

Building Maintenance

Tammy Boggs and her committee members have been working on several areas of concern with roofing and leaks, trying to resolve these issues before winter weather sets in. They have been focusing on the exterior of the building during the summer season and have given the ramp a fresh coat of paint. Thank you!

Bountiful Harvest
Thank you to our church members who are so generous in sharing their garden produce on Sundays. Most recently, we have had sweet corn, and now tomatoes, from CL & Linda Palmer.

Stone Soup

This annual fundraiser will be held again during the annual Knox County Scenic Drive Fall Festival
Saturday, October 1 and Saturday, October 8
We will soon be circulating the sign–up sheets for workers and pie donations. This year’s proceeds have been designated ½ for our church wide mission support and ½ to help pay for needed roof repairs.

Quilt Show

The ladies are again organizing a display of the work of the Quilts of Valor chapter along with a showing or quilts by members and friends of our congregation . This will be held in the sanctuary and the upper level of the church during the Saturdays of Scenic Drive October 1 and 8. To enter a quilt for display, bring it to the church by Sunday September 25, 2016 and be sure to label it with your name. Including and additional information about the origin of the quilt is also appreciated.

Vacation Bible School supports Food Pantry

This year’s VBS was a great time for both the adult volunteers and the students attending. Our mission focus was the Knoxville Food Pantry. An amazing $383.31 was collected in offerings and donated to the pantry.

Ice Cream Social raises money for roof repairs

Thank you from Chairman Julie Shaver for all the help and support on this annual fellowship fundraiser held during the Knoxville Community Band Concert on June 22nd in Central Park. $398.41 was raised and will go to help pay the cost of roof repairs.

2X4 Sundays
September 11 & 18

We will be participating in the annual campaign of Habitat for Humanity of Knox County as we raise money and build awareness for the local mission project. Come prepared to sign your name on our 2 X 4 that will be placed into a local habitat home during construction.

Bon Voyage, Dustin Kasser
